Setting Analysis

This story is set in present day America.  The story takes place on a train heading to Chicago and also in an unknown military area.  The atmosphere in the movie is somewhat a dark one.  The whole time, the viewer is on the edge of their seat, hoping for a moment of relief.  The atmosphere in the train is one that is slightly lighter than that of the unknown military capsule, that we are later informed in just a place that Stevens imagines.  This lets us know, that Stevens must be in a dark place in his life, and that is shown when he discusses the issues he has with his father.
